Ricardo Herz is a 28 year old violinist from São Paulo, Brazil. Despite his young age, Herz has plenty of experience as he is classically trained (Graduated at São Paulo University) and also studied jazz at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. In France, he studied at Didier Lockwood’s institute, where he regularly conducts work-shops on Brazilian music. Back home, in Brazil, Herz won the popular jury at Visa Prize for Brazilian Music in 2004. Since then, he has released two solo CDs "Violino Popular Brasileiro" and "Brasil em 3 por 4", distributed in Brazil) and has also performed with talented artists such as Yamandu Costa, Hamilton de Holanda and the forró legend Dominguinhos.

Herz’s repertoire is extremely rich in top quality instrumental Brazilian. His excellent repertoire ranges from Northeastern rhythms to choro, samba and its numerous variants. His research and deep knowledge of Brazilian music inspired his second solo album, Brasil em 3 por 4, including famous popular waltzes by composers such as Milton Nascimento, Pixinguinha and Djavan. Experimenting in his home studio, Ricardo recorded all the violins on this album. He plays the bass, the solos and everything else. He says: “I’ve always wanted to record a solo album playing in duos, trios and quartets, all by myself!”, he laughs. The album will be released in September 2007.

In Violino Popular Brasileiro, his first album, he proposes five of his own compositions besides warm interpretations of brazilian classics such as Ponteio, Beatriz, É and Linha de Passe. All marked by virtuosity and vivid energy. The mandolinist Hamilton de Holanda co-signed the music production with Herz for the cd, in which the accordionist and singer Dominguinhos (in Céu) and percussionist Zé Luiz Nascimento both participated. Hamilton himself performs on the track É.

Currently, Ricardo lives in Paris and, apart from his solo work, he performs with the groups Orquestra do Fubá (dedicated to forró), Tekere (afro-brazilian-jazz) and 3por6 (acoustic choro trio).

In his European solo tour, Ricardo is accompanied by Natallino Neto on the bass, Mathieu Gramoli, drums and Anthony Winzenrieth, guitar.
