With a professional music career spanning more than 25 years, he has established himself as a leading percussionist, creative artiste and session musician renowned for staging outstanding live performances in concert halls, theatre productions as well as art exhibitions. Based in Malta (Europe), Renzo’s concert schedules have taken him on a beautiful musical journey across the globe, from Greenwich Village (New York City) to South Korea. He has performed in major festivals (WOMAD, Festival of the Desert, Musica Viva, PASIC) and theatres, and has worked alongside exceptional musicians to the likes of Trilok Gurtu, N’faly Kouyate (Afrocelt Sound System), Guo Yue, Mercan Dede and Mousse Ndaiye (Youssou n’Dour). Through his ongoing World Music Projects, Renzo regularly engages musicians from various ethnic communities to collaborate and create unique musical dialogues. These cross-cultural exchanges and concerts have consistently mesmerised and intrigued audiences, and in 2008 Renzo was appointed Ambassador for the European Union’s campaign “Year for Intercultural Dialogue”. His creative and inventive approach to challenging projects has earned him high-profile assignments from local entities, foreign diplomatic bodies and international arts councils. He has scored music for the visitors’ audio guide of Hal-Saflieni Hypogeum, Malta (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), performed the contemporary “Sounds Unlimited” during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2005 (presented by The National Arts Council of Northern Ireland and The British Council), presented installation performance “Re:Public” as closing event celebrating Cork (Ireland) as European Cultural Capital, and “Sketches from Home” performed during the Festival of Cultures in Viareggio (Italy) (by invitation of the Italian Ministry of Culture). His residency/research period at the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC) in Belfast (N. Ireland) highlighted his enthusiasm for more contemporary and experimental presentations of percussive music, merging the resonance of “found objects” and more conventional percussion instruments with live-electronic manipulation. His solo album entitled “This is my language” (2005) is a collection of “sketches” using traditional as well as unconventional percussive instruments, and is described by the artiste as “a personal statement, an inner voyage … like an abstract painting, there to be perceived by every individual”. Renzo is an internationally endorsed artiste for world leading companies Toca Percussion, Paiste Cymbals and Gibraltar Hardware, and is supported by Yamaha Drums and Olimpus Music (Malta). www.renzospiteri.com

A great exponent of bansuri music, Guillaume spent many years in intensive training under the living legend Hariprasad Chaurasia at the Vrindaban Gurukul in Mumbai (India) and recently under Pt Rajendra Prasanna from New-Delhi. With great dedication towards the bamboo flute and indian classical music, he was able to absorb the essence and authenticity of the tradition. Apart from his knowledge of the traditional repertoire and technical skills, Guillaume's lyrical and intense style leaves no-one untouched. His warm, rich tone and soulfull expression mesmerize. He has performed with various musicians in India such as Arnab Chakrabarty (sarod), Babulal Gandharva (inventor of the unique string instrument called "belabahar"), Rakesh Chaurasia (flute), Sri Nandakumar (mridangam), Ustad Rafat Khan & Zuber Shaikh (sitar), Anirban Roy Chowdhury & Naveen Gandharva (tabla)... and has accompagnied Hariprasad Chaurasia several times during "Krishna Janmashtami". In the west/Europe, he performed with Ustad Misirli Ahmet (darbuka) & Erkan Ogür (guitar/saaz) on "The Search" Tour in Turkey (2005), Levent Yildirim (darbuka), Saïd Chraibi (oud), Manu Eveno (from french pop band TRYO) at Quebec Summer Festival (2006), film-director Tony Gatlif on "Vertiges" Tour throughout Europe (2007), and many others... Now based in Paris, Guillaume performs on a local and international scale and often returns to India... He is a performer of north-indian traditional music recital as well as a full-time member of various world music ensembles such as FOULA (pop-world), ARBOLS with an album "La Danse du Papillon"(2006), MELODITERRANEE and MARC LIEBESKIND TRIO (ethno-jazz)... In solo-recital, he renders the three main styles of hindustani music known as dhrupad, khayal & thumri. He is a teacher of Indian Flute in France with an organization named Yaman. “Guillaume ushers in a potent challenge to the prevalent negative notions about the competence of non-native performers of Indian classical music. He belongs to an elite minority of foreign musicians who have absorbed the essence of this music and are able to reflect this in performance.” – Arnab Chakrabarty (sarod)

Rui Vinagre has initiated the study of Portuguese Guitar in Coimbra in 1996, in the section of Fado from the Academic Association of Coimbra, and later in the “Escola da Guitarra, da Viola e do Fado de Coimbra” (School of Portuguese Guitar, Classical Guitar and Fado from Coimbra). In 1998 he creates the project “Despertar” (Awake), composed essentially by a repertoire of the master of Portuguese Guitar, Carlos Paredes. At the same time he worries about playing the Portuguese Guitar with the correct existing techniques, through the performing of the traditional repertoire composed for this instrument, he also dedicates himself to the composition and exploration of the instrument in the scope of new and original paths for the instrument and for its performing techniques. From jazz to Portuguese traditional music, Rui Vinagre operates alchemy, transforming the way we listen to the Portuguese Guitar. The influence of the undisputed master of the instrument, Carlos Paredes, is there, as are some unexpected associations. When he performs the Portuguese Guitar, this musician discloses an unique instrument from a culture that is in permanent expansion throughout the world, integrating it in several genres and styles that include Portuguese traditional music, classical music, jazz, dance music, promoting the fusion of styles in which these instrument’s sound, usually associated to “fado”, integrates in an unique way. In 2002, Rui Vinagre initiates the project TRILHOS – “Os novos trilhos da Guitarra Portuguesa” (PATHS – “The new paths of the Portuguese Guitar”. Mainly used as a solo instrument or as company for voice and classic guitar, the Portuguese guitar has no history of consistent experimenting with more complex combos. The Trilhos project makes the Portuguese guitar lose its shyness and start engaging in more gregarious music. He joined Miguel Calhaz (double-bass), Marco Figueiredo (piano) and Joaquim Teles – Quiné (percussion) in this quartet that opens new horizons to this instrument that finally starts to liberate itself from the sometimes stifling status of national symbol. He usually performs in public solo, in duets, trios and quartets, cooperating occasionally with several initiatives in the cultural and social scope, and sometimes is possible to see him in public as an invited musician in several musical projects of different origins.Since 2009 he is teaching Portuguese Guitar at the School of Arts in Sines. He continues to study composition and jazz music at the same school.Rui Vinagre plays with guitars made by Fernando Meireles Pinto with the tuning of Coimbra.
