ARMANDO ILLARIO Diploma in harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano at the Conservatory of Milano, and degree in piano at the Conservatory of Novara (Italy). About to take an MA at the faculty of Musicology, University of Cremona (Italy). As a soloist has given concerts in Italy, and with “Sebes Trio” (violin, clarinet and piano) has performed in Italy and abroad, winning a scholarship in 2002 from Novara Conservatory for the execution of Bartok’s “Contrasts”. Was active member (as a pianist, composer and arranger) of the band “Juba Lane”, research and contamination project of the ethno-jazz scene, which won the 1st prize at the Italianjazz contest “Fiesole jazz” in 1999 and was selected as one of the finalist bands for the 1999 edition of the “Biennial of Mediterranean Young Artists”. With the band performed in many Italian and European festivals, such as “Pistoia Blues”, “Three jazz festival” (Firenze), “Etnosuoni” (Roma), “Sarajevska Zima” (Sarajevo)… Has collaborated as accordionist and arranger in several traditional music bands, such as Eyal Lerner’s “Shlomot” (Klezmer and Jewish music), “Il Paese delle MilleDanze” (European traditional dances), “Le Bal Masqué” (world traditional songs), and “Marsa Project” (European traditional music). Has performed in Italy, France, Malta, Palestine, Greece, Spain…
At the moment is active as accordionist, composer and arranger, in world music band “Tri Muzike”, which has recorded three albums, and “Canto Antico”, which promotes and performs Southern Italian traditional dance and music, winning 1st prizeboth at “Val Tidone International Contest” in 2006 and at “Italian Folkontest” in 2008. Performs both in Italy and abroad. Is also part of the project “Suditalia”, which promotes Southern Italian traditional music in Greece, giving workshops and concerts, and since 2009 has started researching Italian and European medieval and Renaissance music in a project with Viva Biancaluna Biffi and Simone Mongelli. Has worked as a piano accompanist both in schools and in auditions, has composed music for theatre and movies, and has taken part in two urban performances by Simone Mongelli: “Dimensioni” and “Tipota”, performed at “Sarajevska Zima” festival in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Played piano in the musical “Gianburrasca”, touring many important Italian theatres As a teacher has also been active in piano and accordion lessons, as well as a Musical Education teacher in Secondary schools and in several workshops about traditionalmusic and dance in Primary schools.
